Blue Ridge Georgia Spring Experiences

Welcome back to the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, which begins its 2014 excursion schedule on March 14th. The train is a great way to view the breathtaking beauty of spring in the mountains as it winds its way from Blue Ridge to McCaysville along the Toccoa River. VinyardsCelebrate spring at the 8th Annual Wine Highway Weekend two weekends this year,
March 22-23 and 29-30, featuring 14 north Georgia wineries. There's no better way to shake the winter blues than spending a weekend in the mountains, tasting award winning Georgia wines, and Blue Ridge is a great central location. The vineyards of Mountain Wine Country, from eastern North Carolina and North Georgia, will also host the second annual Bud Break Wine Highway Weekend on April 25-27, and Serenberry invites you to Awake the Grapes with them on May 3. more info

Swan Drive-InExperience vivid green forests, mountains and countryside, dotted with seasonal wildflowers, flame azaleas and ferns in early spring. Wildflowers pop up in April and May, as the forests reach full canopy. Our Chattahoochee National Forest recreation areas open between April 1 and 15, including the Ocoee Whitewater Center, Morganton Point Recreation Area and gates to seasonal roads. Restaurants in Blue Ridge GAGet creative at the 2014 Blue Ridge Writer's Conference April 4-5 at the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Center. Keynote speaker is Claire Cook, author of "Must Love Dogs." The conference provides a venue for professional writers, editors and agents to provide honest and accurate feedback to the aspiring writer in how to sell a magazine article, finish a novel, or do historical research. more info

Blue Ridge ArtsSee some very funny plays this spring at the Blue Ridge Community Theater, beginning with "Beached Wails" from April 10 – 27 and "Cactus Flower" from May 15 to June 1.
The Blue Ridge Community Theater's 2014 calendar continues the Live Music is Better Series with Grammy nominated Nashville singer-songwriter Gretchen Peters on March 29th. more info

Adventure RacesWhether you participate or spectate, come to Blue Ridge for some great outdoor races this spring, beginning with the Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race April 12 and Blue Ridge Kids Adventure Race April 13. Finish line festivities are always fun as you watch racers dash into town on Saturday afternoon in downtown Blue Ridge City Park. The next weekend on April 19, bring the kids, the dogs and friends for Breathe Deep Blue Ridge a fun 5K run and walk fundraiser for the Lungevity Foundation at Mercier Orchards. Blue Ridge will also welcome back The Atomic Adventure Race May 18th. more info

U-Pick Fruit Mercier OrchardsMake reservations early for the 6th Annual Taste of Blue Ridge on April 26 at Willow Creek Falls, 11 Trackside, benefiting the Blue Ridge Humane Society. Taste of Blue Ridge is one of our area's most popular events, featuring lots of fabulous food by local restaurants, beer and wine tastings and great live entertainment. more info

Blue Ridge Community TheaterIt's strawberry pickin' time! Mercier Orchards is a beautiful place to welcome spring, beginning with their Kite Flying, Farm Tours and Apple Blossom Tours. U-pick strawberries and sweet cherries in late April and May; watch their website and Facebook Page for updates. Special events include Kite Flying on March 22, Kid's Baking Classes and Breathe Deep Blue Ridge 5K April 19. more info

Chattahoochee National ForestWatch beautiful Lake Blue Ridge rise toward full pool in late May. Rent a pontoon or jet ski for the day at the Lake Blue Ridge Marina, a paddle board from Surf Blue Ridge, or put your toes in the chilly water at Morganton Point Campground, which reopens in April. Lake Blue RidgeHarvest some beautiful trout beginning May 15 from the Delayed Harvest trout fishing area near Shallowford Bridge on Aska Road. The Georgia DNR begins to stock trout in area streams beginning in March, but fishing is always good in the Trout Capital of Georgia, whether you fish the broad tailwaters of the Toccoa River or for native browns on Noontootla Creek. Toccoa River Trout FishingCelebrate the arrival of Summer on Memorial Day Weekend at the 38th Annual Spring Arts in the Park Festival in downtown Blue Ridge City Park. With over 185 fine arts, crafts and food booths, the festival has something for everyone. There are always activities for the children, along with special events for the big kids. Being in downtown Blue Ridge will also offer the chance to explore your favorite shops, galleries and restaurants and find out what's new! more info
