The Ultimate Blue Ridge Girlfriend Getaway
If you are looking to relax, unwind and recharge, Blue Ridge is where to make that happen. It’s filled with equal parts “rough & tumble” and “relax & pamper”–much like the strong women we know who deserve a respite in the mountains.
Friday: Ease into the weekend
Rugged: Leave the city and head into the mountains for an early afternoon waterfall hike. Try Long Creek Falls or Fall Branch Falls–either is a great way to start your adventure.
Relaxed: Time to unpack and shower. You could stay intown in a glamorous condo like Main & Main, but I’m going to prescribe a secluded Mountain Top Cabin Rental with a fireplace, hot tub, comfy porch…and two girlfriend getaway essentials: a corkscrew and a coffee pot!
Now that you’ve had time to unwind, make your way downtown to Treo for crabcakes or a prime filet. Friday means live music on the patio, so order a bottle for the table.
Saturday: Paddle and pamper
Rugged: Don your life vest and hit the whitewater. Ocoee Whitewater Center was the location of the Canoe, Kayak and Slalom events during the 1996 Olympic Games. Ocoee Rafting and Rolling Thunder offer the Upper Ocoee five-mile run–the same course as the Olympic Whitewater contenders!
You’ll be famished afterward, so head straight over to Copperhill’s Rum Cake Lady Cuban Café for lunch. Try her traditional Cuban sandwich, just be sure to save room for rum cake bites and a café con leche.
Relaxed: Your powerhouse morning deserves an equally amazing relaxation retreat at Serenity Spa. Schedule a salt cave session, a deep cleansing facial, a relaxation massage … or a multi-service package! Reminisce with the girls about your weekend (or plan the next one) as you cozy by the fire, waiting between services.
A girls’ weekend should never be a compromise between your strong side and your feminine side. Blue Ridge encourages you to indulge both!
Sunday: Trail rides & treasure hunts
Rugged: Hit the trail with a horseback ride over 250 acres of gorgeous private land, including lakes, creeks and mountain views. The private ride option with Appalachian Trail Rides is an affordable way to ensure your group experiences the trail at your own pace.
After your ride, make your way back Downtown and enjoy lunch at Harvest on Main. Select from soups and salads or their famous Wild Caught Gulf Shrimp & Logan Turnpike Grits. Whatever your select, just be sure to order the pimento cheese appy for the table.
Relaxed: Since you’re already Downtown, take a few hours to learn why Blue Ridge was named one of the “Top Ten Towns for Craft Lovers” in the country. Visit specialty shops, boutiques and galleries for fine furnishings, art, antiques and unique crafted items. Don’t miss Canoe’s wearable art–leather bags, totes, jewelry and accessories, all of which are handmade in Blue Ridge.
High Country Art and Antiques showcases traditional and impressionist fine art, folk art, photography and other treasures. Top off your treasure hunting with a visit to Multitudes Gallery, owned by Michael Lacey and featuring high-end glass work, art and jewelry.
For dinner, indulge in locally sourced, seasonal selections at Black Sheep. Just be sure to reserve your table; they are one of Blue Ridge’s most popular upscale eateries.
