Job Description:
INFORMATION SPECIALIST
Basic Function – Front line customer service representative, providing information and assistance to Visitor Center and Chamber of Commerce visitors and members.
Information Specialist Responsibilities
• Answer phones in a friendly, business-like manner; supply information to callers, take messages as needed. Route calls to the responsible staff member.
• Greet visitors to Chamber of Commerce/Visitor Center in a friendly, welcoming manner.
• Keep updated with ongoing events and new members.
• Provide updated area information, including cabin rental resources, restaurant and shop hours, attraction hours and information.
• Collect and display information on holidays, area events, activities, and services.
• Assemble inquiry and relocation packages (at the Main Chamber office).
• Keep brochure racks stocked.
• Coordinate with other chamber members to help keep them stocked with updated materials, as needed.
• Maintain and compile guest book data.
• Hand out Visitor Guides and occasionally promotional products at the train (Downtown Blue Ridge office).
Facility Responsibilities:
• Maintain the reception area so that current community and chamber information is accessible and easy to find.
• Maintain Cleanliness of the facility
Other Responsibilities:
• Attend and/or work special events, sometimes after hours or on weekends, as required.
• Operate point of sale system
• Attend periodic staff training.
Qualifications: The Information Specialist must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook and use of the internet, have previous office experience and excellent telephone and people skills.
