Frankie Sparks Live at Misty Mountain Hops

The Way Back Boys, named because they go waaaayyyy back, consists of childhood friends Frankie Sparks (guitar) and Daniel Johnson (harmonica). The duo has been described as blues/roots rock, drawing their influences from Chicago blues to Appalachia folk and everything in between. Frankie Sparks picks the flat top and sings, serenading audiences with a voice often described as a mix between Freddy Mercury and Toby Kieth. Holding down the duo is harmonica player Daniel Johnson. Daniel knew the blues were in his blood from the moment his mother went into labor in the Deep South on an unnamed stretch of highway between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Daniel was delivered by a passing black man who was not only a blues fanatic but also happened to be a doctor. He gave Daniel his legal blues name, which he still uses to this day as a stage name: Near-sighted Strawberry Buchanan. When you hear them play, you’ll understand why. You will feel the blues.
