Fannin County 2000 clean-up
|
|
The Fannin County 2000 clean-up was our first
event under the Rivers Alive program. Our environmental emphasis
was on the Toccoa River Canoe
Trail and surrounding properties of the Toccoa River Valley.
Over 124 volunteers with local businesses worked the area
from Deep Hole to the Turkey Farm. Supporters of all ages
enjoyed a day in the Chattahoochee National Forest.
Over a quick lunch provided by Shallowford River
Shack, volunteers discussed
those unusual discards they had reclaimed. . Fannin County
trucks started rolling in, full to the brim with the results
of our labors. The disassembled pieces of a 1942 automobile
were crested on top of the
first dump truck. This was by far the most unique find.
 Individual
neighborhoods had spent early morning on riverbanks before
moving on to public lands. The afternoon
shift had a special treat with a trip to the Swinging Bridge.
By late afternoon all returned to Shallowford
Bridge for a cookout and camaraderie. Again, Fannin County's
volunteers proved, we do make a difference and can have a whole
lot of fun doing it!
