The Fannin County School System is a Georgia Charter School system which has achieved district level accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools/Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS/CASI). The Fannin County School System (FCSS) consists of five schools: Blue Ridge Elementary (K-5); East Fannin Elementary (K-5); West Fannin Elementary (K-5); Fannin County Middle School (6-8); and Fannin County High School (9-12).
As of the October 2013, Full-Time Equivalency count (FTE), the district serves approximately 2,940 students in grades K-12. The FCSS employs 243 certified and 209 classified personnel for a total of 452 employees. There are 77 teachers and administrators with master's degrees, 125 with specialist degrees, and 7 with doctorate degrees. The schools have a student-teacher ratio of 15:1. The teacher retention rate has remained above the state level in middle and high school. The elementary retention rate has dropped below the state level due to teacher reduction in force events.
The FCSS is the largest employer in the county. The FY14 school district operating budget is $29,454,067 with a 15% fund balance. The budget is approximately 55.93% local funds, 37.73% state funds, and 6.33% federal funds. With a millage rate of 13.9, the district ranks as one of the lowest rates in Georgia. Mountain Area Christian Academy (MACA)
Mountain Area Christian Academy offers parents in North Georgia a choice in the education of their child. MACA is a fully accredited private Christian school serving Fannin, Union, Towns, and Gilmer County, Georgia as well as Polk County, Tennessee and Cherokee County, North Carolina since August 2000. Parents have found MACA offers an educational environment that is comprehensive and facilitated by experienced administrators and faculty who have a desire to educate the whole child.
The school opened its doors in August 2000 with an enrollment of 40 students and seven teachers. University of North Georgia Blue Ridge Campus
UNG’s Blue Ridge Campus opened in fall 2015 and offers a variety of educational pathways that include dual-enrollment courses for high school students, a full-time program for first-time freshmen with courses that will enable students to complete degrees in regional high-demand disciplines, courses for adult learners getting started in college or returning to college to complete a degree, as well as continuing and professional education programs for career growth or personal enrichment.

North Georgia Technical College
North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) opened its Blairsville campus in 1998, a state-of-the-art $5.5-million facility with 48,000 square feet of classrooms, labs, and administrative space. The latest technology is found in every program. Student enrollment is about 500. NGTC was accredited in 2008 to offer two-year associate degrees as well as technical certificates and diplomas in a variety of career fields.
